Allison Williams' Emmys Prep Involves Having a Solo '90s Dance Party
on
In Emmys tradition, Tina Fey and Jon Hamm will throw their annual “Loser Lounge” at Soho House on Sunday night. The only rule: No Emmys winners allowed. However, with the awards still days away, Fey joined other nominee heavyweights at the Garden Terrace of the exclusive West Hollywood establishment for The Hollywood Reporter and Samsung Galaxy’s bash to kick off the weekend. We crossed our fingers that Williams will make it to Sunday night’s winners circle as we chatted with the HBO Girls stunner, who attended with her boyfriend Ricky Van Veen in tow. Read on to get the exclusive on what made her cry at the VMAs, her big screen aspirations, and what makes for a perfect Emmys dress (See if you can guess the designer!). What does an Allison Williams dance party look like? Dangerous. No, I’m joking. I love dancing. It’s one of my favorite things in the whole world. [My go-to move?] It’s a lot of jumping. As for music, I love greatest hits. I’m loving Katy Perry’s "Roar." And all of the Daft Punk songs. I also love '90s pop hits. I’m a big Aqua fan. "Barbie Girl" was a big deal growing up. Hanson. Britney. Backstreet. 'N Sync. I was at the VMAs. I wept when 'N Sync reunited. I cried actual tears out of my eyes. What’s happened off-camera for the cast of 'Girls' that we should know about? We’re all homebodies. However, on the night that we wrapped, Lena and I went to a random, small, little diner in Brooklyn Heights and ordered cheese fries with gravy, a grilled cheese, and an ice cream. The two of us pigged out and celebrated until 2 a.m. And that’s about as wild as we get! By the way, that was the latest I had been up for weeks. There are rumors swirling that you’ll be on the big screen soon. Anything you can talk about? Nothing that I can talk about. What can you tell us about your Emmys dress? It’s always about comfort and feeling like myself in it. The night is about our show, especially Lena [Dunham] and Adam [Driver]. So, it’s really about being a part of the Girls team. I wanted to wear something that I could have worn everyday–if I lived a very fancy life. So, the dress is very me. It’s very easy, beautiful, classic. Do you have a relationship with the designer? I do, and I wish I could elaborate, because it’s a great story. You’ll have to take my word for it or you can ask me again at HBO’s after-party on Sunday. What’s the best part of the Emmys? It’s like summer camp. Over the course of the weekend, you get to know people really well. Last year, my hope was that this year we’d all still know each other. And it’s happening. So, are the Emmys the equivalent of TV’s prom night? I had a weird prom experience, because I went to an all-girls school. But, from my imagination of what prom is like, it’s different from the Emmys, because you don’t invite awkward dates. Most people don’t even get to bring dates. You go with your cast, so it’s like going to prom with your team or homeroom. It’s actually more fun that way because you’re with people you spend a lot of time with. You can kick back and relax. And, your teachers aren’t on the periphery, watching you do your thing. How will you spend your Emmys morning? One of my favorite things to do is to play music really loud and dance my butt off in the morning. I'll do it alone in my apartment. You can’t have a bad day after that. Even if someone sprays you with water, you’re still like, "I’m still bouncing. Things are good." Fellow comedy nominee, Allison Williams, told us, “I’m starting to feel tired, and it’s only ten o’clock.” Balking at the New York-to-L.A. time change, she continued, “I’m a 25 year old girl. I should just be waking up right now.” Williams–along with Julianne Hough, Stacy Kiebler, Ryan Phillippe, Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner, and Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan—were among the A-listers that industry insiders craned to catch in person. But it is happening? Yes. Read more: Girls' Allison Williams Pre-Emmy Interview - 2013 Emmy Awards
